NATIONAL READ A BOOK DAY Foursome

September 6, 2019

NATIONAL READ A BOOK DAY

National Read A Book Day is observed annually on September 6th.  On August 9th, we all celebrated National Book Lovers Day.  While these bookish days may seem similar, National Read a Book Day invites us ALL to grab a book we might enjoy and spend the day reading.
Don’t keep it to yourself.  Share the experience!  Read aloud either to children or to grandparents.  Read to your pets or to your stuffed animals and plants.
Reading improves memory and concentration as well as reduces stress. Older adults who spend time reading show a slower cognitive decline and tend to participate in more mentally stimulating activities over their lifetime.  Books are an inexpensive entertainment, educational tool and time machine too!

Mr. Wicket, Sticky Wicket, Surferino and Wick O’Shay gathered at Mar-A-Lawno to play three games under high clouds with light winds and warm temperatures. The course was dry, hard and clumpy in spots. The layout was course #1, the original course. A prefunq prepared the players to endure the three game marathon. The curated playlist contained selections by bands many of whose original members are dead. Still, the original songs were vibrant and reminiscent of time past.

Wick O’Shay, Mr. Wicket and Sticky Wicket all won a game. Many great shots were made. The SOD honors go to Wick O’Shay, Mr. Wicket and Sticky Wicket. Each player hit long distance roquets. Poison Sticky hit a kill shot on Wick and caromed a few inches from Mr. Wicket who was dispatched forthwith. Bonehead Play of the Day, BPOD, honors go to Sticky who roqueted his red ball with the green ball. Although not mentioned for a particular distinctive act, Surferino was competitive in each game. All in all, the players seemed to respond well to the dry and hard course conditions.

No children, pets or elderly persons were harmed as a result of play. Several wickets were knocked apart but were reparable.

Good Day on the Course! Too bad Lefty was recreating elsewhere! Surferino would do better if he did not lift those heavy weights prior to play! Thank you Mr. Wicket!
